Facts for the Traveller
Xian, once the capital city of China, is today the capital of Shaanxi province, and is located in the southern part of the Guanzhong Plain. With the Qinling Mountains to the south and the Weihe River to the north, it is in a favourable geographical location, surrounded by water and hills. The cultural and historical significance of the area, as well as an abundance of relics and sites, have earned Xian the title of "Natural History Museum". Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of interior China, Xian has become an important cultural, industrial and educational centre.Plug TypeLanguageMandarinPopulation1.318 billionTime ZoneGMT +8 hoursMeasuresMetric SystemVoltage220 voltsMobile PhonesGSM 900/1800
